Fremont Police

Fremont Police Department has a staff of 35 sworn officers and 6 police reserve officers.  Mullen has served as chief since 1989. 

Steve Tellatin is Deputy Chief of police records, police communications and the III-CORPS Drug Task Force.

Detective Lieutenant Greg Chamberlain supervises a four member detective bureau; he is also the department's training officer. 

The Fremont Police Station also includes the Communication Center through which all 911 emergency calls are routed, four communications operators, four secretaries, the III CORPS drug task force, a K-9 unit, a State Patrol office, and an animal control officer.

The Dodge County Enhanced 911 Program is coordinated through the police station. The department participates in the Community Policing Program and  officers are active in programs including gang resistance, Adopt A Cop, bike patrol, school security, and TRIAD.

Dodge County Sheriff

Dodge County Sheriff Steve Hespen oversees a staff of 16 deputies who provide law enforcement in rural areas and towns throughout Dodge County.

The sheriff's office is on the first floor of the Dodge County Judicial Center, 428 N. Broad St., in Fremont.

A lead investigator heads the criminal investigation division while three sergeants oversee the uniform patrol division. Civil process is handled by one deputy. There are four sheriff's office secretaries and four dispatchers.

The department is involved in the DARE and "Just Say No" programs and will also speak about bicycle and firearm safety, defensive driving, etc. The sheriff's department, along with the Fremont Police Department, is very involved in the TRIAD program for senior citizens throughout Dodge County. Through TRIAD, law enforcement personnel help senior citizens protect themselves from consumer fraud. Cutting Crime

Residents can help fight or prevent crime these ways:

  • Neighborhood Watch is designed to help residents deter crime in their neighborhoods. Participants watch for anything or anyone suspicious and notify the police department at 727-2677. There are more than 35 Neighborhood Watch programs throughout Fremont. There is no cost to participate. Signs and other membership materials are provided.
  • McGruff House program works with more than 100 Fremont homeowners who offer their homes as a safe place for children on the way to or from school. Children who are lost or who need help can look for a sign in a home's window with a picture of McGruff the Crime Dog. Participants are screened by police.
  • TRIAD is a program established for crime prevention in the retired community. Calls for TRIAD can be made at 727-2687.
  • CRIME STOPPERS INC., solves many crimes in Fremont. Tipsters call the police department anonymously at 727-4002, with information on crimes or suspects. Callers are given a code number. If an arrest and formal charges are made because of the tip, the caller could receive a reward as high as $1,000. Reward money comes from private donations, grants, and criminals' restitution payments. Call 727-2677 (COPS)
